这位书记太了不起了，让一个把信仰共产主义等同于精神疾病的国家对他表示尊重，太了不起了。
今天起床看中国新闻，一个矿的书记托人带出来的信，在与外界隔绝联系的情况下。他们已经搞清楚了受灾情况，伤亡，写清楚了需要的物资和支援，也已经开展了自救。这份努力让我感动，LP问我为啥感动？我说，我想起了VT枪击案时候那群躲在树后面听枪响的美国警察。

The town was once home to 13,000 people, and 3,000 are still missing, he says.

As he shows me the damage to his community, I ask how many have died. Tears flow down his cheeks, and he makes no effort to wipe them away. He says that as many as 500 are dead, including his parents, his wife and their two children.

In the midst of his anguish, there is a call over his radio. He's needed again, and he runs off -- with apologies -- to go back to work."

现在的美国人不信任中国政府，但没法否认这一个个普通人的努力。不论他们加什么样的废话来掩盖自己的尴尬，随着这样事实的增多，我相信普通人心中对中国的看法会一点点改观的

But despite a lack of food, water, phone service and supplies, most of the victims were undemanding and uncomplaining -- some playing cards to pass the time -- confident they would be looked after.
